Egress support — Pairing and connection help

Troubleshooting for pairing and connecting Egress on your iPhone with your monitor Mac.

My iPhone cannot find my Mac on Wi-Fi.

Check that your iPhone and monitor Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network, that Egress is open as the monitor on the release with phone pairing, and that Local Network permission is enabled for Egress in iOS Settings. You can also connect using your Mac's Tailscale tailnet name.

How do I connect over Tailscale?

Turn on Tailscale on both your iPhone and your monitor Mac on the same tailnet, then connect in Egress using your Mac's tailnet name. Make sure Egress is open and acting as the monitor on your Mac.

The pairing code was refused or expired.

Show a fresh six-digit code on your iPhone, then on your monitor Mac open Egress › Settings › Pairings › Pair a Phone…, enter the new code, and choose View only or Can change worker settings.

A setting change stays on Waiting.

Egress shows a change as applied only after the worker's own status reports the new value. Check the worker in Egress to see whether your Mac can reach it and when it last heard from it; once the worker reports the updated setting to your Mac, the status updates.

The app says the Mac cannot be reached.

Wake your monitor Mac and check that Egress is running. On local Wi-Fi, verify your iPhone and Mac are on the same network; away from home, check that Tailscale is connected on both devices and the Mac's tailnet name is unchanged.

How do I pair again if the phone stops connecting?

If your Mac lists the phone as Not loaded, or the phone can no longer connect after the Mac was reinstalled or rolled back, pair again. Start a new pairing on your iPhone to display a six-digit code, then on your Mac open Egress › Settings › Pairings › Pair a Phone…, enter the code, and select View only or Can change worker settings.
